The Royal House of New Sawereso-Seinuah joyfully celebrates the successful inauguration of the Kingdom’s first maternity clinic on May 8, 2025, a monumental achievement in advancing maternal healthcare in the Ahafo region. Led by Nana Ama Manu I, Queen Mother of Development, Dr. Carmen Ward-Sullivan, in collaboration with His Majesty Nana Katakyie Agyemang Duah III, this initiative has transformed the landscape of maternal care for our communities.
Situated within the Asante Kingdom, the clinic now serves approximately 11 villages in New Sawereso-Seinuah and extends its care to mothers from neighboring regions, including Sefwi Dome, Sefwi Agyemandiem, Sefwi Sayereso, Naketey, Anwiaso, Sakyikrom, and Weijakrom. Equipped with 16 beds, including five hospital beds and one delivery bed, and supported by seven nurse midwives and one physician, the facility has already begun providing safe, dignified childbirth services, replacing the perilous conditions women once faced.
“This clinic is a beacon of hope, ensuring every mother receives the care and respect she deserves,” said Nana Ama Manu I, Dr. Carmen Ward-Sullivan. “We are witnessing the joy of safer births in our communities.”
His Majesty Nana Katakyie Agyemang Duah III declared, “Our mothers now have a sanctuary for childbirth, free from the dangers of makeshift settings or long journeys. This clinic is a cornerstone of our commitment to their dignity and well-being.”
Improving Maternal Health Outcomes
The clinic is actively addressing maternal mortality, low birth weight, and preterm births by providing essential care and initiating systematic health data collection to guide future interventions. This data-driven approach marks a significant step toward understanding and resolving longstanding health challenges in the region.
