New Sawereso, Ghana – Exciting news is on the horizon for the Kingdom of New Sawereso-Seinuah! Thanks to the vision of Dr. Carmen Ward-Sullivan, Associate Dean of the College of Nursing at Samuel Merritt University, the first-ever maternity clinic is being built in the area. This vital facility promises to significantly improve maternal health outcomes for the region.
A Royal Partnership for Maternal Health
Dr. Ward-Sullivan’s commitment to this project has been recognized with the honorary title of Her Royal Highness Nana Amma Manu I, Queen Mother of Support, bestowed upon her in 2023 by King Katakyie Agyemang Duah III. This partnership, which remarkably began through a connection on Facebook, underscores the power of global collaboration in addressing critical healthcare needs.

Addressing a Critical Need
The need for this clinic is paramount. King Katakyie Agyemang Duah III recognized the urgent issue of preventable maternal mortality due to the lack of access to healthcare facilities in the region. The new maternity clinic will directly address this challenge, providing comprehensive care to expectant mothers.
Comprehensive Care for Mothers and Babies
Scheduled to open in October, the clinic will be a state-of-the-art facility featuring 16 rooms and a dedicated team of 7 nurse midwives and one physician. This team will provide comprehensive care throughout pregnancy and postpartum, ensuring the health and well-being of both mother and child.
Serving the Entire Kingdom and Beyond
The maternity clinic will serve all 11 communities within the Kingdom of New Sawereso-Seinuah, extending its reach to neighboring areas as well. This initiative represents a major step forward in ensuring access to quality maternal healthcare for a wide population.

The people of New Sawereso eagerly anticipate the opening of this transformative maternity clinic. Dr. Carmen Ward-Sullivan’s dedication, combined with the vision of King Katakyie Agyemang Duah III, promises a brighter and healthier future for mothers and children in the Kingdom of New Sawereso-Seinuah.
